What I appreciated about Darren's work was the faithfulness in reproducing exactly what I wanted as a building plan, and his knowledge of the building regulations and what was acceptable to the council.
Having worked with one large building company before I appreciated that working with Darren sped things up in getting the plans to the council for approval, the drawings could go direct to me, then to the council, whereas previously months were added in the approval stage, as the plans had to go from me, to the builder, to the designer, back to the builder, to me, then to the builder, then to the council, and follow the same route back. When this happens 3 or 4 times due to builder or architect error in what the council finds acceptable, it takes up to a year, just for approval. So I felt like I had more control and more input working with Darren, and it was definitely faster.
What attracted me to choosing Darren as the designer, was the fact that I could see from his previous designs that he had a willingness to work with new materials, and I could see from his previous plans that he could design anything from simple to grand, to something with architectural significance, an overall flexibility.
Working with Darren allowed me to be flexible in breaking down the stages of the design process, as my circumstances needed a period of time in getting through a subdivision of a piece of land, as the first step, then when this was done, refining the building plans.
When one material we planned to use became unavailable we even managed to do a full structural change along the way, with ease. This all really fitted in with what I was doing, was reasonable priced, and fast.
